History of the museumSolomon R. Guggenheim started his collection in 1929 helped with German painter Hilla Rebay. After a few years he decided to a foundation dedicated to promotion and encouragement and education in art and its enlightenment of the public. In 1943 he asked Frank Lloyd Wright to design a permanent structure for the collection. But Solomon R. Guggenheim never saw his museum as he died in 1949 ten years before its opening to the public.
