History, collection and exhibition

The first museum dedicated to Modern Art opened its doors in 1929 in Manhattan thanks to Abby Aldrich Rockefeller (wife of John D. Rockefeller Jr.) and two of her friends. The reputation of the MOMA rapidely grew after Van Gogh and Picasso exhibitions. Today MoMA's collections include more than 150,000 individual masterpieces and more than 22,000 films!
