Central Park : map & attractions

About Central Park : Central Park is the most visited city park in the USA - It welcomes more than 25 millions visitors a year! The large rectangle of greenery spread in the center of Manhattan Island surrounded by buildings and skyscrapers... It is 2.5 miles long (4km) and 0.5 mile wide (0,8km).
History : The park was designed by landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted and architect Calvert Vaux. While much of the park looks natural, it is in fact almost entirely landscaped. It contains several natural-appearing lakes, extensive walking tracks, two ice-skating rinks, the Central Park Zoo, a wildlife sanctuary, and offers a lot of attractions to New Yorkers (See the list below)
Sport & visit : Every week-end Central Park is visited by joggers, bicyclists and inline skaters but it is also a great place for romantic walks. It is also the finish line of the New York Marathon.
